Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to rebuild a home?
Most ground-up rebuilds in Altadena run 12–18 months from contract to move-in, depending on scope, size, and permitting. Design and permitting typically take 6–8 months, and construction 8–12 months. Fire-loss
replacements can move faster where the original footprint is retained. We give you a realistic schedule up front and update it weekly.

Can you build an ADU on my property?
Yes. Many of our Altadena projects pair a main house with an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or junior ADU (JADU) — from compact studios to full 1,200 sq ft two-bedroom units. California and LA County rules make ADUs highly buildable, and we handle the design, permitting, and construction so it reads as one cohesive property.
How much does it cost to rebuild in Altadena?
Costs vary with size, style, finish level, and site conditions, so we scope every project individually rather than quote a blanket price. During your consultation we build a transparent budget covering design, permits, sitework, and construction and we help you weigh custom versus semi-custom paths to hit your number without sacrificing character.
Do you handle permits and approvals?
We do. Our team manages LA County and Altadena permitting end to end, including fire-rebuild pathways, plan check, and inspections. Because we build here regularly, we know the local requirements, including fire-rated assemblies, tempered glazing, and defensible-space landscaping, and design them in from day one.
Do you do build only?
Yes, if you already have architectural plans, we're happy to come on as your builder for construction only. You don't need to start from scratch with us. We'll review your existing plans, walk you through permitting, and manage construction through move-in. We conduct regular owner architect contractor meetings to ensure alignment throughout the entire build process. Clients can also hire our design team for partial hours to fill in materials and interior design gaps where needed.
What home styles do you offer?
We have years of experience in Spanish (Revival, Mediterranean, and Colonial), Cottage (Traditional, English, and Craftsman), Mid-Century Modern, and Modern (Farmhouse and Contemporary) styles. The beauty of our team's diverse skill set and client-centered design approach, though, is that we can also design in other styles or blend styles together. Within each, we tailor rooflines, materials, and detailing to fit your street and your taste.
What is your design roadmap?
Five steps: Consultation to align on vision and budget, Design for architecture and materials, Permits through the county and Altadena, Build with fire-rated construction and weekly updates, and Homecoming — final walkthrough, warranty, and keys. You always know exactly where your project stands.
What's the difference between custom and semi-custom?
Custom means we design your home from a blank page around your lot and lifestyle — maximum flexibility, longer timeline. Semi-custom starts from a proven Enhaus plan you personalize with finishes, layout tweaks, and style — faster and more predictable in cost. We'll recommend the right path for your goals during the consultation.
